Welcome to our Texas Hill Country Canyon Lake vacation home which we call DALA HUS. DALA HUS sleeps eight and we rent it for two-night weekends or weeks or months at a time. We call our vacation home “Dala Hus” because the home has a Swedish – Scandinavian flavor. We also call it “Rock Castle” as well as Dala Hus because our vacation rental home is built on a rocky Texas Hill Country limestone outcropping.

A Time and Place to Recharge

Enjoy the solitude, watch the sailboats, scan the cedar covered hills, and enjoy sunsets over the Triple-Peak range. Venture out for tubing and Guadalupe River activities. Do some grilling; walk the dam; hike the Guadalupe River path …

After you are recharged, do a day trip to New Braunfels, Gruene, Boerne, Bandera, or Austin. If you are up for it head over to the giant outlet shopping mall in San Marcos on I35.

The US Army Corps of Engineers map below shows a general layout of the Canyon Lake area with the parks, beaches, and boat ramps. Dala Hus is close to Boat Ramp 1.

Dala Hus is 1700 sq. ft. on levels plus 700 sq. ft. of porches

Dala Hus is 1700 sq. ft. on two levels with additional 700 sq. ft. of porches; 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms with tiled walk-in showers. Dala Hus has a Scandinavian-Swedish decor with a yellow and blue scheme. Note that we have lots of original artwork throughout the house.

Location South end of Canyon Lake. FM306 to the “T” with FM2673 which is right past the Whitewater Amphitheater.

Beds Very comfortable king-size in master bedroom and queen-size beds in both guest bedrooms downstairs.

Bathrooms and Showers Two tiled bathrooms with walk-in showers with glass doors.

Kitchen and Cooking Modern kitchen with island cooktop range and all the usual kitchen appliances and gadgets. [We have wine glasses should you care.]

Dining Out Close-by find: Italian Gardens, Gennaro’s Trattoria, Granny D’s, Startzville Cafe, Wildflower Grill, and The Real BBQ. For a delightful breakfast inclusion, checkout KafeKali Coffee and Bakery on FM2673. We like to head into New Braunfels and dine at McAdoo’s Seafood Company ($$) or Alpine Haus Restaurant ($$$).

Laundry Modern washer and dryer. The washer and dryer do their jobs well, if you pay attention to the host of settings! You can read the washer and dryer pdf files in your spare time after you are given access to the Guests page.

Lake Access Boat Launch #1 is a little over ½ mile away. The boat launch in NOT for swimming; check out the Canyon Lake parks and beaches instead.

Parking Walk-in parking. At the bridge entry there is room for one big vehicle or two smaller ones. There is adequate parking in the drive way in front of the garage.

Porches Both levels have 38′ x 10′ porches. The porch through the sliding glass doors from the living room is screen. The adjacent porch via the master bedroom sliding glass doors is not screen. There is seating for six at the table. The downstairs porch has a hammock, exercise bike, and chairs and cushions that can be brought in from the garage.

Decor Scandinavian-Swedish, lots of windows and sliding glass doors. Tiled throughout.

Residential Privacy Rock Castle Dala Hus is on a cul-de-sac (dead end) so there is not a lot of traffic, but we do expect our guests to respect our neighbors.

What is Nearby Lowes and Brookshire grocery stores are nearby, but we usually stock up at the HEB on 306 when we are coming in. There is a huge, new Walmart at Spring (46 & 281). In Sattler find Ace Hardware, an auto supply store, USPS, and lots of resale shops.
